Hotel Genevieve: Where Louisville's Layers Unite with Style and Elegance

Louisville is more than just one thing—it contains a multitude of layers. It’s more than Derby, and it’s more than bourbon. Named for King Louis XVI of France, it has French origins but is a decidedly American city. Known as Strike City, Louisville’s legacy is peppered with rebels and revolutionaries.

This place is an intersection of unexpected opposites, where the Midwest and the South meet. Refined but not snobby. Polite and, in the best ways, a bit over the top.

Enter Hotel Genevieve, a luxurious oasis in the heart of Louisville. Its name is inspired by a regional type of limestone, Saint Genevieve, a key ingredient in bourbon production. Limestone is also prevalent throughout Texas, providing a throughline from Bunkhouse origins to this new chapter in Kentucky.

Saint Genevieve is also the patron saint of Paris, celebrating both the French origins of Louisville and the many women that worked to bring the hotel to life. Hotel Genevieve stands as a testament to the power of female visionaries and their contributions to the city's vibrant culture.

As you step inside Hotel Genevieve, you'll find a seamless fusion of new architecture and rich touches that pay homage to Louisville's one-of-a-kind culture. Every detail has been thoughtfully curated to create an immersive and memorable experience for guests.

The property boasts multiple options for outdoor spaces, including balconies and patios, where you can soak in the charm of Louisville. The interiors feature Sferra linens and Kassatex towels, ensuring the utmost comfort and luxury during your stay. Custom fixtures and finishes designed by ROHE add a touch of sophistication to the space.

In your room, you'll discover Bunkhouse custom-designed robes, in-room Bluetooth speakers, and complimentary WiFi and phone services. The mini-bar offers a curated selection of beverages and snacks, perfect for a late-night indulgence or a relaxing evening in.

Hotel Genevieve goes beyond being just a place to rest your head. It embraces the spirit of the city by offering an array of food and beverage outlets. Start your day with a delightful breakfast, enjoy a leisurely lunch, savor a delectable dinner, or unwind with drinks at one of the multiple food and beverage outlets. Room service is also available during restaurant hours, ensuring you can enjoy the hotel's culinary offerings from the comfort of your own room.

Speaking of culinary delights, Bar Genevieve is a must-visit spot within the hotel. With sweeping views of Louisville, this bar offers cocktails and light bites inspired by French street food and its many Mediterranean influences. Whether you choose to sit indoors or venture outside to enjoy the views of the city and the Ohio River, Bar Genevieve promises an unforgettable experience.

For a taste of Parisian charm, Rosettes, the ground-floor all-day restaurant, is the place to be. Driven by simple, rustic ingredients, Rosettes captures the essence of al fresco Parisian cafés. Whether you're celebrating a milestone or simply enjoying the little moments of life, Rosettes provides the perfect ambiance and culinary delights to make your experience truly special. Overseen by Chef Ashleigh Shanti, whose culinary sensibilities are rooted in African American foodways and a passion for storytelling, the restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, dinner, and weekend brunch.

Chef and sommelier Ashleigh Shanti brings a unique culinary voice rooted in African American foodways, including Black Appalachian food, to Hotel Genevieve and to the city of Louisville. With a background in marketing and culinary arts, Ashleigh's journey has taken her across various cuisines, honing her skills and crafting a culinary voice that is truly her own.

Ashleigh's upbringing in coastal Virginia instilled in her a deep appreciation for traditional Southern flavors. Her culinary journey led her to study Culinary Arts at Baltimore International College and gain experience in a range of restaurants, from Northern Italian to Classic French. Ashleigh's passion for storytelling through food was further nurtured during her time as a culinary assistant for Chef Vivian Howard, supporting Howard's PBS show, A Chef's Life, and other endeavors.

In 2019, Ashleigh's culinary prowess earned her recognition as one of "16 Black Chefs Changing Food in America" by The New York Times. She was also named one of Eater's "Young Guns" the same year. As Chef de Cuisine at John Fleer's Benne on Eagle, Ashleigh's exceptional culinary skills contributed to the restaurant being included in Bon Appétit's 2020 Best New Restaurants list. Her talent and dedication to her craft were further acknowledged when she became a finalist for the James Beard "Rising Star Chef of the Year" award.

At Hotel Genevieve, Ashleigh brings her unique perspective and passion for African American foodways to create a culinary experience that celebrates Louisville's diverse culture. Her menu showcases flavors inspired by Black Appalachian food, combining traditional ingredients and techniques with her own innovative twists. With each dish, she weaves a narrative that reflects her heritage and honors the vibrant food traditions of the region.

Beyond the culinary experience, Hotel Genevieve offers a curated retail boutique featuring goods from Kentucky makers and Bunkhouse's signature custom products. This allows guests to take a piece of the hotel's charm and the local culture home with them.

Hotel Genevieve also understands the importance of welcoming all members of the family, including four-legged companions. With its dog-friendly policy, your furry friends can join you on your Louisville adventure and enjoy the hotel's warm hospitality.

In the heart of Louisville, Hotel Genevieve stands as a testament to the city's rich heritage, blending French influences with American spirit. Its thoughtful design, luxurious amenities, and culinary offerings curated by Chef Ashleigh Shanti create an experience that is both refined and inviting.
