Hey there!
I’M THE OWNER OF THE SOUTHERN WEEKENDER
It's time to change the way we think about the South.
The South has long been known as the cultural heartbeat of America. It's where our most iconic music, food, and literature were born. And for black Americans, the South has been a place of great struggle and triumph.
Black music has always been at the forefront of southern culture, from the jazz and blues clubs of New Orleans to the soulful sounds of Memphis. It's where icons like Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, and Tina Turner got their start, and new artists continue pushing the boundaries of what's possible.
And let's not forget about our food. BBQ, fried chicken, and collard greens are just a few of the mouth-watering dishes originating in the South. For us black Southerners, food isn't just nourishment; it’s a way to connect with our heritage and community.
But the South is more than just music and food. It's where black Americans have fought for our civil rights, from the Montgomery bus boycott to the March on Washington. It's where leaders like Martin Luther King Jr. and Fannie Lou Hamer made history and changed the course of our nation.
Despite our challenges, black Southerners have always found ways to thrive. From the bustling streets of Atlanta to the historic neighborhoods of Charleston, black culture is alive and well in the South.
When you are ready to find yourself in the South, please take a moment to appreciate all it offers. From the rich history to the vibrant culture, there's no denying that the South is a place like no other.

Our Goal
Celebrating Black Culture Through Travel in the South
I’m on a mission to explore the rich culture and history of the South. My goal is to showcase the beauty of this region and its people while celebrating Black Americans' resilience, creativity, and contributions.
Travel is not just about visiting new places but also about connecting with people and experiencing their culture. For black travelers, exploring the South is an opportunity to connect with our heritage, learn about our ancestors, and gain a deeper understanding of our place in America's history.
My blog inspires and guides you as you plan your trip to the South. Whether you're interested in exploring the musical legacy of New Orleans, the civil rights history of Birmingham, or the vibrant art scene of Atlanta, I've got you covered.
I'll provide insider tips on where to stay, what to eat, and what to see while sharing stories of the people and places that make the South unique. From soul food restaurants to jazz clubs, historical landmarks, to natural wonders, I'll take you on a journey through the heart of the South.
But more than just sharing travel tips, I also want to use my platform to celebrate black culture in all its forms. I'll highlight local artists, musicians, and entrepreneurs making a difference in our communities. I'll share stories of black trailblazers who have left their mark on the South and the world.
In short, my goal is to show the world that the South is more than just a region - it's a vibrant, diverse, and dynamic place where black culture thrives. So join me on this journey, and let's celebrate the beauty of the South together.
